Alcohol and drug recovery

Alcohol and drug recovery

Eagles View Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre - Alcohol and drug recovery

Many people don’t always realise that rehabilitation is not just about addressing the immediate issues and potential short-term side-effects. In fact, the foundation of treatment for alcohol and drug abuse is about recovery, about taking control and empowerment over substances.

The path to full alcohol and drug recovery is tough. It is by no means a straightforward, quick process. The first step towards recovery, physical and psychological, is honesty. The principle that we at Eagles View Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre follow is that everyone involved – patients, friends, families, healthcare professionals – have to be in agreement that there is a problem.

There is simply no point in auctioning treatment if the patient and/or family and friends are not prepared to acknowledge the issue at hand.

Road to recovery

Our treatments are designed to address immediate physical and psychological issues, but also help the patient to achieve a state in which they are able and willing to make substantial changes.

These changes are the main factors or characteristics of recovery. To recover from addiction takes enormous courage, patience, dedication, commitment and sheer tenacity to ‘stay the distance’.

Healthcare and wellness professionals will often say that the road to recovery is different for everyone and will depend on numerous factors, from physical and emotional attributes to DNA and maturity levels – as well as the reasons behind the addiction.

We place a premium on the vital role that a support network plays in terms of recovery. In our experience, patients that have a support network in place, in addition to treatment, inevitably have a much better chance of recovery.

One of the main factors in recovery is sustainability. We place a huge amount of emphasis on the longevity of recovery – it is critical that treatment results in recovery for life. We are all aware of the dangers of relapse, a worry that is always hovering over the addict.

More than intervention

Treatment is more than just medication and intervention of healthcare professionals, it is also about addressing emotional and psychological trauma. This is absolutely essential for recovery.

We must remember that alcohol and drug recovery is a journey, a personal journey that addicts must face and have the courage and discipline to change habits, gain back control over their lives and be prepared for a better tomorrow.
