Eagles View Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre - Substance abuse rehabilitation center

The term ‘rehabilitation’ is often associated with substance abuse issues. But to rehabilitate is by no means a straightforward process – it is a lot easier said than done.

At Eagles View Wellness and Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre it is our experience that rehabilitation can be a long process that requires continuous commitment, discipline, patience and honesty.

We are sometimes asked what the chances are of a person suffering with substance abuse making it through a programme successfully. This is a difficult question to answer because the truth is that the abuse of different substances will require specific, tailored treatment for that substance. What works for someone will not necessarily work for everyone.

We offer therapy which is designed to address the dynamics of dependence on substances.

The way we approach substance abuse is we firstly identify what substance or substances are being used, we gather as much information as possible about the user behaviour, and we put together a treatment plan that we believe will work the best.

Alcohol abuse

For example alcohol abuse… this is a chronic disease with a strong craving for alcohol, loss of control, and physical dependence.

A major red flag is continuous drinking despite negative consequences such as health issues, relationship problems, and legal troubles.

It is also marked by tolerance development necessitating increased alcohol intake for desired effects.

Behaviours to look out for include drinking alone or in secret; neglecting responsibilities and relationships; experiencing blackouts or memory loss; making excuses to drink or hiding alcohol; increasing tolerance to alcohol and needing more to feel its effects; as well as withdrawal symptoms such as shaking, sweating, or nausea when not drinking.

Our response is to work with all stakeholders, victims, friends and family to apply treatment based on a combination of therapy, support groups and medication.

Drug addiction

One could argue that drug addiction, whilst it covers a number of different substances and scenarios, is arguably one of the most common forms of substance abuse. It is also one of the main reasons why people seek for a substance abuse rehabilitation center.

This addiction is marked by chronic, relapsing disorder with compulsive drug seeking and use despite consequences. Users experience changes in brain functioning which can continue long after a user has stopped their habit.

Behaviours to look out for include compulsive drug seeking and use, neglecting responsibilities and relationships.

Treatment entails detoxification, counselling, behavioural therapies, support groups, and medication-assisted treatment.
